Jim and Sandra Binney know the rigors of the ministry as well as the blessings. While Dr. Jim Binney spent 16 years as a pastor, God planted a burden in his heart as he watched an increasing number of his colleagues leave the pastorate every year. In a paper entitled, "Who Will Help the Healer?" Dr. Binney proposed a ministry to address the needs of pastors and their families. He envisioned a place where they could go for help – a retreat from the pressures of ministry.

Through an exciting display of God's leading, a retreat facility opened up -- the former seasonal estate of the late Agnes Moorehead, a well-known actress of both television and movies. The Binneys arrived at Moorehead Manor in 1989. Since that time, L.E.A.D. Ministries (Leadership Enrichment And Development) has grown to encompass not only counseling for ministry couples but nationwide marriage conferences, pre-marriage boot camps and parenting seminars.

An offshoot of the ministry is the "Counselor's Pen" publications, a collection of books and tapes to offer help to those in need.

The ministry headquarters is now located in Greenville, SC and continues to minister the word of God with compassionate, surgical precision.

Our Mission

The primary goal of L.E.A.D. Ministries is to encourage pastors, deacons and other leaders in ministry, through Biblical counseling first at Moorehead Manor in Ohio and now at a beautiful bed and breakfast in Greenville, SC.

Hundreds of leaders and their wives have come for counseling since 1989. After spending a week of counseling, many have seen broken marriages restored, some have received a renewed vision for their ministry, others have experienced victory over personal struggles, but all have clearly seen the value of Christ's counsel about taking themselves out of the ministry to gain a fresh perspective: "And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat" (Mark 6:31).
